Tired of a Denture That Moves Every Time You Eat or Talk
Most patients who come in asking about implant dentures have been dealing with the same problem for a while. The denture shifts when they eat. It slides when they laugh. They keep a tube of adhesive nearby just in case. That is not a quality of life problem. That is a confidence problem, and it follows people everywhere.
At ReNEW Dental in Tewksbury, Dr. Elaine Wu, DMD and Dr. James Wu treat every implant denture case as a team. Dr. Elaine Wu graduated with highest honors from Boston University School of Dental Medicine and completed a 260-hour program at the Kois Center in Seattle. Dr. James Wu is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon with over 30 years of experience. Patients from Tewksbury, Andover, Lowell, and Wilmington choose this team because when the restorative dentist and oral surgeon build the plan together, the result fits better and holds up longer.
What Are Implant Dentures?
Implant dentures combine the stability of dental implants with the convenience of a removable prosthetic. Two to four implants are placed in the jawbone and the denture snaps onto attachments connected to those implants. It stays firmly in place while eating and speaking but can still be removed for cleaning at night. Implant dentures also preserve partial jawbone volume, slowing the bone loss and sunken facial appearance that traditional dentures allow to develop over time.
The difference comes down to what holds them in place. Traditional dentures rely on suction and the shape of the gum ridge. Implant dentures are anchored to the bone itself. Patients who make the switch say the difference is immediate. Foods that were off limits come back. The adhesive goes in the trash. The anxiety about the denture moving in public disappears.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Implant Dentures?
Good candidates have enough jawbone density to support two to four implants and healthy gum tissue with no active periodontal disease. Patients with some bone loss are often still candidates, and Dr. James Wu evaluates whether grafting is the right path when bone volume is limited.
Here are the most common situations where implant dentures are the right fit:
- Current denture wearers frustrated with slipping or adhesive
- Patients who want more stability than a traditional denture provides
- Patients who prefer a removable option over a fixed arch
- Patients with remaining natural teeth who need partial replacement
- Patients with some bone loss who may not qualify for full arch implants
- Patients who want to slow bone loss and preserve facial structure
Health conditions that affect healing are discussed openly before anything is scheduled. Patients who want additional comfort can discuss sedation options with Dr. Wu at the consultation. Not sure if you qualify? The dental implant candidate quiz gives you a starting point before your visit.
